Why I’m Starting This Blog

Hands weaving a colorful tapestry on a loom

Many of us who do helping work spend a lot of time thinking about others.

Our clients.
Our students.
Our supervisees.

We ask thoughtful questions. We listen carefully. We hold space for difficult stories.

And sometimes we forget that the questions we ask others are questions we are still living ourselves.

This blog is a place to explore some of those questions.

I write and teach about body image, culture, and the stories we carry about our bodies. I also work with clinicians who are building their own voice in the therapy room. Over time, I’ve realized that these two paths intersect more often than we expect.

If we invite others to question the messages they have received about their bodies, we also have to be willing to examine the messages we have received.

This space will include reflections on:

• body image and diet culture
• clinical work and the development of a clinician voice
• the ongoing work of integration

Sometimes the writing will be for clinicians.
Sometimes it will be for anyone who has ever wondered how we begin to step outside the diet trance.

But all of it is rooted in the same belief:

The work of becoming more fully ourselves is ongoing.

If you’d like to stay connected, you can join one of the newsletters linked on this site. Each one explores a different thread of this work.

I’m glad you’re here.
